Installation Tip: Magnet Installation

October 20, 2012 1 comment
Q:
How many of you have been installing the magnets on the top horizontal only to have a screw turn on you and loosen from the nut? If you have had this happen to you, you are not alone.
A:
To facilitate this part of the installation, place a finger over the top of each of the two screws as you slide the magnet into place as shown in the picture.

Installation Tip: Proper Counterbalance Cable Routing

The Lifestyle garage screen counterbalance system is a cable and spring system which when properly installed will provide for quiet, effortless operation of the garage screen. When installing the cable for the counterbalance system, it is important to ensure that the cable does not cross over and rub on itself. On each track, a properly installed cable forms a single continuous series of loops:

1. begin by passing the cable through the hole in the cable pin,

2. around the 3 pulleys as depicted in the diagram below, and

3. ensuring that there is the instructed and recommended pre-stretch on the spring, tie off the cable at the 3-hole plate located with the pulley installed on the back-hang,

4. test the tension by operating the Lifestyle garage screen door and adjust the spring pre-stretch to your satisfaction. Then pass the free end of the cable through the spring for safety, and secure that end to the 3″ perf angle fixed to the jamb.

Be sure that the final position of the pulley connected to the spring is such that the pulley rests in a vertical plane. This is natural orientation of this pulley when the cable is routed properly and the pulley fork, spring, and S-hook are all correctly installed. The pre-stretch on the spring will assist in holding this pulley in the vertical plane. If the pulley is not held in this vertical plane, the resulting configuration is likely to cause the cable to cross over itself. This cross-over state in the cable will result in unnecessary noise as the cable rubs against itself when the Lifestyle screen is moved up and down. This incorrect installation may possibly cause wear on the cable resulting in it breaking over a period of time.

The color coded cable routing diagram below shows the proper installation of the Lifestyle garage screen counterbalance system.

Installation Tip: Lifestyle Screens 3-Box and 3-Bag System

Many of you are already enjoying the way that Lifestyle screen comes packaged. Our 3-Box System distributes the large components into manageable cartons: Frame Box, Screen and Track Box and Hardware Box. Be sure to completely open the Frame Box by cutting the white strapping material and folding open the box. This will prevent the painted extrusions from being scratched. Pulling the extrusions out from one side of the box is never a good idea.

The 3-Bag System separates the fasteners into bags found in the Hardware Box: Frame Bag, Track Bag and Counterbalance Bag.  You should open one bag at a time and in the order mentioned here. Open the Frame Bag first to build the frame and install the backhang  Next open the Track Bag to install the tracks and finally open the Counterbalance Bag to install the springs. The installation process is designed so that you use up all of the hardware and fastners in an open bag before you need to open another bag.

Great care goes into packing our kits and we want to make sure they look as good when you open them as they did when they were put in the box here at the factory.

FYI: We know that things happen from time to time. If for any reason you need to touch up a frame member, keep in mind that we have touch up paint pens and aerosol spray cans available. Call your Lifestyle Screens sales rep for information on these.
